HEY EVERYONE! How's life? :D I'm sure you are all doing great! This week was quite the stressful week since MST is just next week! (2 days later actually) I'm sure the whole of DPCS year 1s & 2s will do fine! :)

So anyway, update on school life! Below are pictures of one of the experiment we did for environmental, and i shall spare you of the technical terms~ X) We don't want to stress out our juniors.








Its a pretty simple experiment actually. The machine used above is really cool! It allows us to find out the turbidity of the samples like seawater, tap water, distilled water, and etc.
FACT : Tap water in Singapore is really not as clean as you think. Think twice before you drink directly from the tap! The amount of metal ions in tap water is actually, quite high.

Now, a little sidetracking. One of the reason why we all do not regret choosing SP, is because SP has got to have the BEST cheese fries! X)
Its really good! Go try it if you haven't already! :)

Lastly, for our flavor and fragrance chemistry, we did something we've done in our IFF~ Just that this time round, the project focuses on household products! :)
When the project is completed, I'll share with everybody what we all came up with! Please look forward to it!

Hello! We're back again!:D
For this week, we carried out an experiment for Colloid Chem which is to test the stability of 2 types of colloids, that is the Gelatin colloid and Hydrated Iron(III) oxide colloid~
Here's a picture of the gelatin colloid which hasn't been destabilised yet. Looks clear right?:)

Now, here's how a destabilised gelatin colloid looks like. It's looks turbid just by the addition of approximately 1mL of ethanol;)

Hello! We're back again!
So for this week, the year 1s got a chance to carry out standardisation of  HCl against Sodium Carbonate which is a primary standard!
Here's the picture of HCl which was contained inside the volumetric flask~
We carried out titration against the sodium carbonate primary standard in order to find out the exact concentration of the HCl.

We added in 2 drops of methyl orange indicator to the primary standard before we begin titrating. So this was how it looks like before the start of titration~
During, the titration process, we titrated the solution of sodium carbonate in yellow with the HCl from the burette.

At the end point, a nice orange solution was observed!
We also had to be extra careful not to over-titrate the solution!:)
Aside from the lab sessions, the year 1s are also busy gearing up for the upcoming MSTs:)
